Concept V&A Illustration brief to design a book cover of my own choosing. The Wasp Factory is written in the perspective of a psychopathic teenager called Frank who kills wasps in ritualistic ways to help him predict the future. Strategy Since the novel depicts gruesome violence throughout, I illustrated a number of wasps in a fluid, scratchy, expressive manner. The wrap-around cover showing part of the wasp’s body and wings leaves an unsettling feeling which is consistent throughout the novel.
