UNBUILT: Considering the Unbuilt Contributions to the Built Environment

  • Melodie Leung

Curated by Melodie Leung, Zaha Hadid Architects in June 2017

The conference brought together women in architecture to reflect on and highlight the
achievements, ideas, and dialogues which may have never been built, yet profoundly contributed to
the built environment that surrounds us. Any design practice, as well as the architecture industry as a
whole, exists as the result of a continually evolving body of work and collaborative associations. To
consider the impact and intention of this process before they fall from memory, is to acknowledge
how the ideas which shape tomorrow are rooted in the transformation of the designs of yesterday and
today.

The conference was divided into the following five themed panel discussions:
ABSTRACTION
INNOVATION
EVOLUTION
REVOLUTION
LONGEVITY

The conference was supported by The Ace Hotel London.

The day began with a brunch, with a menu in collaboration with Arabeschi di Latte.
“Time may change an ingredients colour, shape, taste or texture, yet still leave its own nature untouched. There remains an intimate and intriguing bond between food and the shift of time. Moments, hours, days, weeks, years or even just a few seconds can define an edible singularity.”
