Wales Arts Mobility Fund: Sub Saharan Africa

  • Lauren Patterson

Funding application for Jukebox Collective x Wales Arts Mobility Fund to Ghana. Successfully secured funding from the British Council for Jukebox Collective's scoping trip to Accra. I curated a detailed itinerary and project plan which informed the development of new work and partnerships. During this trip I facilitated connections and meetings with artists, collectives and organisations including Free The Youth, Fuse ODG, DWP Academy, Nana Yaw Oduro, Kwame Boafo, Accra (dot) Alt and Kuukua Eshun. The trip provided invaluable insights into the opportunities and challenges for potential collaboration between Wales and Ghana and set the foundations for future projects.

“As risk takers, Africans globally are starting movements without waiting for validation but instead using community to guide, share information and create value for their work. Doors are opening that once seemed impossible and creative industries are leading the way to engage the diaspora and present an image of Africa that makes people around the world want to see it for themselves. Artists are not only shaping history, they are apart of keeping history and creating a legacy that will impact people for generations to come.”
