Wulfwaru's Homestead - LCF BA FINAL COLLECTION 2021

  • Jack Hebden

Taking inspiration from Frank Sutcliffe’s sepia photographs of the hardworking Yorkshire folk of Whitby and Craig Oldhams ‘In Loving Memory of Work’ about the coal miners strike in the 1980’s, this Autumn/Winter Collection illustrates the hardwearing clothes of the North enriched with the application of hand techniques, creating a distinctive contemporary design language. Wulfwaru’s Homestead has responded to the demand for hand-crafted, unique, luxurious pieces, offering a haute couture edge but retaining the nostalgia of age old craftsmanship. Identifying with the traditional workwear of the rural gentry and infusing it with the playful elements of fabric, construction and colour. This collection is comfortable playing with traditional silhouettes and imbibing them with a new sense of femininity. The use of delicate materials such as hand-dyed silk succeeds in creating an authentic modern style contrasting with the traditional Gansey inspired knitwear and pure Yorkshire wool. By manipulating the garments lengths and proportions the collection immerses the consumer in an innovative approach to classic Yorkshire heritage.
