- Poster for the Stage - Fake MermaidThis was for a stage production of Ruddigore. The director for this production planned to set it in a seaside resort in 1960, and asked for a a couple of 'Fleece the Tourist' posters to place around the stage. I mentioned the concept in passing to my niece who immediately said 'Fake Mermaid'! The director agreed, and I had another chance to try out the brilliant 60's cartoon style. The line 'Of that there is no manner of doubt' was requested by the director and is a slightly nerdy nod to another
- Ruddigore - Poster DesignA comic melodrama originally set in the early 19th century, this production was moved to 1960, and the director wanted to stick to the late 50's/ early 60's theme in the poster design as well. The story focuses on an apparently honest, modest famer who is hiding the fact he is really a Baronet, cursed to commit a crime a day or die. Along side this there is also a heroine who gets all her life advice from a book of etiquette, a (supposedly) honest sailor, ghostly ancestors and, of course, a pac
- Off to the Shows- Poster for JTP TrustJTP Trust, a local group focused on encouraging children and teenagers to sing, was planning a concert when Janice Thompson, the brains behind it, got in touch with me. She was having trouble getting hold of a good design for their poster and program cover, and explained that the concert would feature songs from various musicals. I decided to meld together as many musical characters as I could think of, and place them in the car from Chitty-Chitty-Bang-Bang. The only one she insisted on was Cal
- Iolanthe PosterPoster Design for Swindon Gilbert and Sullivan Society. The story they wanted me to tell this time was that of a flock of fairies who, after the entire House of Lords annoy them, retaliate by making their half human nephew Prime Minister. Not the most logical story in the world, but great fun to work on. This was done using Corel Paintshop Essentals and a hand drawn illustration. For a while I tried the Lord in his robes of state, but he would keep looking like a king, so I put him in a top ha
- HMS Pinafore Poster DesignI was very pleased to hear that local theater group Swindon Gilbert and Sullivan Society had come back after Covid with a new production in mind - and that they once again asked me to work on their posters and banners. This time they chose a short and simple show, a story of a lass who loves a sailor - but is tempted by the powerful and stupid Sir Joseph Porter (KCB). The director asked for something that reflected this story - and no boats! After a bit of fiddling, I came up with this design.
