Looking for prospective guests for my podcast about cultural roots and identity... could it be you?

*Is identify a discussion more than a fixed answer?
*Have you moved more than you can count?
*Did you grow up in a culture(s) outside of your parents?
*Are you more attached to your suitcase rather than a bedroom?

If you identify with one, or more, of these questions... I want to talk to you!

'Floaters' is a podcast about people who have experienced life through different cultures, beliefs, jobs and how that has impacted their life today.

So far I have spoken to adult third culture kids, cross-cultural kids, children of immigrants and hope to speak to many more.

  • Hey Sophia, yeah would be interested in chatting about this. I've lived in 3 countries, and who knows how many houses over the years.

Definitely have a mixed culture because of living in these countries at such signifigant times in my life. That and my my family's culture & communities does make life interesting sometimes, but sometimes creates an internal conflict too.

And been thinking a lot about moving/going on the road and working post covid, but guess we'll see.
  • Sounds like you're hitting on really interesting topics Sophia :) I was born in South Africa and have Indian heritage so I'm always a bit of a confusion to people. I also grew up moving around a lot in the Middle East due to my parent's jobs. Would love to chat so drop me a message :)
  • Hi Sophia,

This is a fascinating question and definitely worth discussion!

I was born and raised in a quiet seaside town on the North Yorkshire coast. After college, I moved to Leeds which has become a huge digital hub in the North of the UK.

I love the city and working within the creative industries. I have since tried to reconnect with my hometown, but have found this very difficult.

Sometimes it's hard to get back to your roots if that community feels you have turned your back on them in a way. I wonder if other people have felt the same way? I suspect this may be common in the creative industries where people have to move to larger cities in order to gain the work.

Please do feel free to connect if you feel we could continue the conversation. :-) I'd love to learn more about your plans for the podcast.

  • Hi Sophia! I'm currently living in Barcelona, but I'm from Belgium and I have a danish background. We moved around a lot when I was little and it's something I still need in my life as a grown up. I have lived in Norway, Belgium, Alicante, Barcelona and Itlay. Identity is something that is still a big question, I carry many cultures inside and I'm excited for those to come. Would love to talk about it!
