At Home with Hostmaker - rebranding our in-house design studio

The next challenge for the now 15-strong team was to grow and take on external design projects, while remaining true to its philosophy and still dedicating part of its work to Hostmaker. To do this, a separate identity was needed. One that would encapsulate the studio's values and approach.

A little history

Our in-house design studio has been unlocking the potential of homes for years. Starting in 2015, it started to take on the design briefs for the clients of Hostmaker, to refresh, upgrade or reinvent all or part of their homes prior to them being managed and let out.
As such, they've developed a vast wealth of expertise across dozens of projects in more than 6 countries.

Right away, the leitmotiv revolved around being "at home". What it meant in an increasingly connected world. How it feels when many of our clients are travelling half of the time or more. How to solve for being "at home" while far away, but also bringing the far away in the home, for it becomes part of one's identity.
So was at home with Hostmaker born. To reflect the simplicity of our travel-inspired interiors as well as our focus on comfort and style. The bespoke, hand-written logotype "at home" captures the craft and elegance of the practice, while the reassurance of the serif "with Hostmaker".

The illustration route

As we thought further about bringing out the creative strand of the philosophy, the idea of using the right style of illustration made its way. It worked with initial colour palettes and would be more flexible than pure photography.
Quickly, the brand design team took on the brief and created a system of illustrations - with local nuance and cultural relevance -to bring the new brand to life.
