From the streets of East London to the west coast of Mauritius, Camille Walala’s passion for pattern and colour have sent her all over the world, and taken her from innovative textile designer to gallery-filling star artist. Wherever she goes, she leaves works of vibrancy, dynamism and unquenchable positivity in her wake.
Here, we chart the rise of Walala over the last three years, following her progress through a series of ever-more ambitious projects, ranging from her NOW Gallery maze in Greenwich to the Standing Voice water tanks in Tanzania and the monumental 20-storey façade she completed in Brooklyn for NYCxDesign.
Along the way, she shares her influences and inspirations, takes us inside her studio, and reveals the ideas and processes behind some of her most dramatic projects to date.
