Conversations with Dyer
Sculptor and metal worker Leigh Dyer sets out to decorate his hometown by creating engaging works of art in public spaces, bars, parks and shops. This short publication encapsulates his craft and story.
I caught up with the self proclaimed ‘blagsmith’ to have a chat about his journey into the world of sculptoring. As a result of the interview, I produced a short publication that depicts his personality and artistry through playful, expressive paragraph structures that illustrate its content and a riveted bind that features a nod to metal work.
As a self-taught artist working almost exclusively with recycled and salvaged metals, it’s key that the materials used in the publication reflect this.
The paper stock has been upcycled from a local college’s paper waste, bound by rivets and washers found around a family members workshop.
Intended as a durable source of inspiration that will survive lying around in a the workshop, overtime collecting greasy finger prints, scalds from flying sparks and dampened edges – further developing Dyer’s story of life as a metal worker.
