FLY is a wellness project empowering and inspiring Black Womxn to feel good about their hair through sisterhood and self-love. The project is a series of portraits of Black Womxn illustrating their intimate relationship with their hair, explained in their own words. The portraits are showing the intricate relationship with Black hair and identity. Indeed, the journey to accept, to be comfortable and ultimately love her own hair is a long (and emotional!) journey of self-acceptance, self-love and empowerment. As in some extent, when a Black womxn starts to feel comfortable with her hair, it is when she starts being comfortable with herself. Photography: Alia Wilhem for FLY.
