Nest

Brief: Create a new brand and interior design style for the children’s department of the NHS United Lincolnshire Hospitals Trust. Role: Branding, Interior Design Outcome: Nest is a calming and approachable brand designed to appeal to all patients aged 0-17. Natural imagery and hand crafted textures were used to create a soft and serene environment, whilst modern geometric illustrations appealed to older teenage patients. Through research I discovered that natural imagery and cool colours encourage relaxation and aid healing. I chose a theme of British birds, including environments and species patients would be familiar with. I experimented with different illustration styles and materials to produce natural textures. I developed a modern, geometric illustration style to appeal to teenage patients as well as young children. I developed a colour palette which combined calming cool colours with accents of warmth and vibrancy to provide a sense of cheer for the patients. I used the hand crafted textures to soften the illustrations, making the birds welcoming and friendly. I chose the brand name Nest to represent safety and comfort. Using the established illustration style, I produced a friendly logo of a bird in a nest. I also illustrated a range of scenery and patterns for walls, textiles and other applications, examples of which can be seen in the side room plan and reception plan.
