New York Close Up "Joiri Minaya Pattern Making"

I was commissioned by Art21 to create a short documentary about Dominican Multidisciplinary Artist Joiri Minaya for their “New York Close Up” series. It received a Vimeo Staff Pick for it. Shot in between DR and NY the histories, realities, and fantasies of the Dominican Republic and the wider Caribbean are explored, exposed, and subverted as Minaya seeks to control her own representation and visibility. Joiri’s work is very layered visually and conceptually and I always envisioned some parts of this film edited in a similarly graphic layered style, as a conceptual nod to her work.
