Oliver Bonas x Fedrigoni Candle Packaging
Using Fedrigoni paper and card, design the packaging for a new range of Oliver Bonas candles.
The concept uses natural herb scented candles that, once burnt, can be used as a plant pot to grow your own herbs, and keep the herb fragrance extended for longer. The origin country of each herb would be reflected in the packaging, as well as in the top and base notes. Each candle packaging has a scent hole and die cut lid inspired by the architecture and ceramic tiles of where each herb originates from.
Candle Packaging Specification
Each packaging would be printed on different paper stock from the Woodstock collection. To keep the quality of the paper the focus, text is kept minimal and the patterns are die cut. Each packaging has a drawer at the base holding the matches, seed packet and care card. Each paper stock was chosen with the aim to reflect the respective herb. The elements in the drawer compartment also use paper stock from the collection. The nero contrasts the light given from the flame, as well as reflecting the black vessel. The Pistacchio’s vibrancy echoes the fresh greens of the herbs. Grigio best suits the care card as a calming presence within the set.
The mock-up images of the candles show how they would look from the front and above. The die cut scent hole on the top of the packaging would allow the costumer to smell the fragrance without opening the box.
The inclusion of paper elements continues onto the candle. A gold foiled paper lid reflects the smell of the herb and is suggestive of the warm glow of the flame. The label is removable and can be used as a plant marker when the vessel is used as a plant pot.
Each candle comes with a set of matches held in the drawer at the base of the packaging, to allow the customer to enjoy the fragrance straight away.
The drawer holds the matches, seed packet and care card. The seeds allow the customer to plant their own herbs once the candle has burnt away and the care card provides them with a guide on how to grow their herbs successfully.
