PALMYRA

Set by NY-based type foundry Vocal Type, the purpose of this brief was to express a cultural issue that is personally relevant through typographic specimen design. “PALMYRA” is a typeface designed with the fusion of modern Latin typeface “Galaxie Copernicus” with characteristics of classic Arabic calligraphy. The type specimen utilises humor and satire to address Arab stereotypes in the West through the depiction of Orientalist distortions and the commercialisation of ethnic property.
