Sensory Audio Visual Immersive Experience

The research area AMIANGELIKA is exploring covers the relationship between new spiritual ways of sense-making and awakening and New Media Art. This choice of area is based on the insight which looks at the phenomenon of people not following one particular religion or tradition but creating their own one which implements practices and rituals from a variety at the same time and includes experimentation. As an example of this effect, Rebecca Jennings (2021), who was exploring the new ‘religion’ which is forming on the internet among Gen Z, states that Gen Z perceives different belief systems as pick-and-choosable and ‘more than anything, they believe in the importance of keeping an open mind to whatever else might be out there’. New Media Art, in this case, becomes a tool for sensory communication of the knowledge of various practices. The author of the article ‘Spirituality and Contemporary Art’ Arya, R. (2016) explains that New Media ‘creates greater intimacy, both physically and psychologically’ and encourages the ‘feeling’ of spirituality rather than a simple awareness of it.

AMIANGELIKA proposes a sensory audio-visual immersive experience ‘PANTHEON’ which will be created using new media technologies as a medium. The immersive experience will tell a

story about AMIANGELIKA's own pantheon of 12 deities she created where each space would represent a particular deity/deities through a new media installation. This pantheon is based on her analysis of all mythologies around the world which have a set of gods in their core which was gathered to gain an understanding of the way pantheons are structured in different cultures. Instead of visualising the gods in human forms, AMIANGELIKA proposes to look at them through sensorial metaphors placed in 9 New Media installations which would create specific ‘feelings’ in the audience depending on the space of the proposed deity/deities they are in. The audience will be given individual headphones which will automatically turn on and off the audio part of installations, created in collaboration with composers Egor Ostrovsky and Petr Grezev, when they enter or exit spaces. This will make the experience more personal and encourage the audience to concentrate on their feelings and emotions even more.
