Pip & Moss

  • Grace Brindley

Pip & Moss are a speculative, sustainable fashion accessories brand. The business is based in the heart of Yorkshire, founded by Emily and her daughter Annie, nicknamed Pip. They live with their family and dog, Moss, walking in the woods every day. The brand was founded when Emily left her job working in admin and decided to pursue her dream of opening a shop, however she was extremely disappointed about the environmental impact that fashion accessories were having. Annie has a background in biological sciences, so had developed a way of growing leather from fungus. This inspired the pair to design their own handbags made from sustainable leather, meaning that no nasty plastics had to be used and the bags could be biodegradable too. This is a typographic brand identity created using the 2020 student brief set by ISTD.

As part of the project, a lookbook was created, along with packaging and a personalised tri-fold card, telling the customer about the story of the brand and behind the products.
A website was also created, giving more insight into the story of the brand and enhancing customer experiences. Showing also, that the brand was really focussed on the environmental impact of the fashion industry and they are passionate about the planet.
The story behind the brand was really important. After much research into sustainable fashion and accessories, what became apparent was really communicating the story to increase engagement.
The typefaces used are Masqualero and Zapf Intl. These helped give the brand an organic feeling and feeling of nature and the environment.
