Brief
Working in groups of 2, undertake a two week explorative design project to create a parametric, customisable 3D printed LED table lamp based on a theme of your choosing. Utilise the tools and skills learned in Grasshopper to design a product that couldn’t be modelled using a normal CAD software.
Solution
Rise Desk Lamp was inspired by hot air balloons. The strong sweeping vertical lines are representative of the balloon transitioning into flatter horizontal lines extracted from the basket. The varying density of the apertures cast an interesting and exciting array of shadows onto surfaces in close proximity. The design utilises a standard mains powered Salt lamp housing and LED bulb that clips into the base of the lamp. A variety of different lamps can be generated easily by tweaking only a few parameters producing a huge product range.
