The collection is expressive and informative, subtle attention to mental health, and further emphasised through embroidered ‘state of mind’. It echoes confidence, functionality, and style with the discreet message of wellness and protection. Personal storage for the commuters with contemporary and wearable separates for the introverts and extroverts, each outfit expresses the personality of its own, with a focus on detailing and techniques used to achieve contemporary outcomes for the diverse community, inviting viewers to conjure their narrative whilst also evoking consciousness of our actions and surrounding. The use of technology is evident in the garment’s design, whereas the methods of recycling and reusing will encourage and address the environmental/global crisis. My research began in the Tate London, its surrounding landscape aided the development of garments; France-Lise Mcgurn’s sleepless artwork inspired the mood as it expresses notions of loss, protectiveness, space, and consciousness. Presenting her work as ‘sleepless’, she explores the experience of living in a city whilst evoking the themes of partying, socialising, chaos, and movement. Further research into Jackson Pollock’s technique of action motion correlated with McGurn’s swift brush strokes. With inspiration drawn from utilitarian wear and the ’90s, the silhouette mixes simplicity and complexity through redefined details and shapes.
