Tate Billboard

  • Polina Belenchuk

Tate chose the following artwork to feature on a London Billboard as a winner of their ‘selected works’ competition. Gender equality has always meant a lot to Polina Belenchuk, so she submitted a response to Guerilla Girls, ‘Dearest Art Collector’ 1986. Guerilla Girls' art is still so relevant in today's society, Polina felt it was important to follow the style of their original work, to continue their message. The decision to add the female gorilla not only reflects her interest in profiles, it was a deliberate play on words to represent the action of past, present and future female artists, to inspire and encourage them to ‘keep fighting for your rights and never stop putting art out into the world’.
