Music, drinks, poetry, conversation and connection... we opened the doors to Tate Modern until 1am for a rare opportunity to experience a special late-night Tate takeover. Extending Sovereignty brought together artists, writers and musicians to celebrate Cecilia Vicuña’s Hyundai Commission: Brain Forest Quipu in the iconic Turbine Hall and explore the exhibition A Year in Art: Australia 1992. Visitors could immerse themselves in Vicuña’s radical textile work alongside music and poetry after dark – with DJ sets programmed by Movimientos along with readings and spoken word centring climate justice and indigenous voices from Latin America. This exhibition A Year in Art: Australia 1992 brought together works which respond to debates around Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander land rights in Australia. Visitors heard from exhibition artists live streaming from Australia, hosted by one of the exhibition’s curators, Tamsin Hong. Organised with Hyundai Tate Research Centre: Transnational in partnership with Hyundai Motor. Artists featured: Amancai, Angela Camacho, D Harding, DJ Raff, Felipe Viveros, Gypsy Box, Leo Boix, Tracey Moffatt, Yara Rodrigues Fowler, Yhonnie Scarce
