The Paper Project

  • Rachel Shore
The Paper Project was a collaborative project (2015) creating an installation depicting the Frost Fairs held on the Thames in the early 1800s. The entire installation was made using brown paper and corrugated card, and included tent structures, a bridge, and figures. The restricted medium meant that the paper project challenged us to think of creative solutions to representing many different textures and materials using only brown paper. Paper was shredded, pleated, plaited, scored and knitted to create tents, rope, wood, hair, clothing and brick. Using lighting, a soundscape and music added atmosphere and life to the static scene which was displayed for a number of weeks in the Shell space at BCU Parkside Building.
