You meet the nicest teams when you least expect it. During lockdown time I lucked out on assisting on Kat Perry with her production company. I delved straight in, working from home mostly like everyone else. However, there was a day or two where I went on set as a producer and this is where I met George (we were so cool we didn't exchange second names) but he was Benedict's Digi Op on the shoot and we hit it off immediately. When I meet people in the industry I look for a cool, knowledgeable head. It's not an easy task to handover images you're satisfied fulfills a client's brief, in a day, in a studio you may not recognize, in your own style, with additional teams (like my own) surrounding you ensuring you're doing it to schedule. This is what separates a professional from an amateur photographer and why they get paid the big bucks. I saw Benedict shooting with the Phase One XF with an iQ4 back and I was instantly impressed. At the time this was one of the highest-spec still cameras you could get and I did an entire course on how it works (Phase One Certification 2019). They were operating its focus stacking features with ease and their entire aura as a team was relaxed and focused. They clearly worked well together. George and I exchanged numbers and I heard from him a week later asking if I was free for a job with Benedict the following week as he wasn't able to make it. I jumped at the chance and below are the results. Luckily, it was with Vashi again so I knew what they were after and the specification they needed for the handover. It's jobs like these which celebrate the aspect of play, one of the many benefits we have as creative professionals.
