Editorial Illustration
An editorial spot illustration informed by the first segment of the CBC Ideas podcast with Tom Howell and Nahlah Ayed about the "wonderchicken", how chickens are the ancestors of dinosaurs.
"It's interesting to remember that when you look into the eye of a chicken, you're looking into the eye of an actual living dinosaur," says Daniel Field, a Canadian paleontologist working at the University of Cambridge.
I tried to literally capture this idea, of looking into the eye of a chicken, early on but wasn't very satisfied with where it was going so I abandoned it for this more ambiguously playful solution.
A simplified version of a cracked egg looks strikingly like a simplified version of the head of a T-Rex, a wonderful visual coincidence.
The most influential line in the story ended up being "The chicken that ran with dinosaurs"
