Socio's design was ‘Inspired by the classic story, the Little Match Girl, by Hans Christian Anderson in which a little girl attempts to sell matches on a freezing New Year’s Eve street. Having lost her shoes and with snow starting to fall, she becomes desperate and begins to light the matches. In the flicker of each lit match she sees visions of warmth; families, festivities and food. She is found the next day by passers-by but has already died from the cold. This story is a poignant reminder to be compassionate, especially at Christmas time.’
