Composition XI

  • Will Clempson
An exploration into the visual interpretation of sound. Much of Kandinsky’s work was directly influenced by the sounds around him. In 1923, he completed his renowned painting ‘Composition VIII’, an abstract masterpiece unlike anything that had been seen before. This was Kandinsky’s interpratation of sound.

How would Kandinsky interpret sound in the 21st century? The Look of Sound is an interactive artwork that alters the traditional role of the observer. The viewer not only observes the work, but is an integral part int the creation of the work. Sound is captured from the space, and ‘painted’ onto the screen using algorithms and code created in the Processing software.
