This was a penguin book cover I created for the book Freakonomics that I was shortlisted for. My inspiration for the roulette wheel came from watching the Freakonomics documentary and when an expert was asked a question he said, “it’s a gamble”. From there I thought about casinos and gambling and how economics related to the betting industry. Originally I wanted to have a roulette wheel with different names to represent a chapter in the book. But that soon developed into symbols that related to sections of the book instead. I also used poker chips and playing cards as a way to show the text. With all these elements combined I was able to create something unique enough to stand out in stores.
