Create an identity for the 3rd party publishing arm of Frontier Developments called Frontier Foundry. The identity was to be used across a plethora of assets including print and digital. Brief was to explore options based on initial concepts from internal art director based on the Frontier logo as well as unique solutions. First step was to research the word and the meaning of Foundry. Foundry - noun, A workshop or factory for casting metal. Metals are cast into shapes by melting them into a liquid, pouring the metal into a mold. In this process, parts of desired shapes and sizes can be formed. Relating this to the identity was important, Frontier would in essence be the Foundry and other game studios would be the metals, going through the publishing process and then being released into the world. Good examples of other gaming idents were used as reference. The idea of customising the ident for each title being released was something that works really well for other studios and could be replicated easily. 4 main options were explored, 2 with more safe design choices and 2 were to push the brand in an exciting new direction. Preferred option was option 3. The O had a negative shape in the bottom to hint at the foundry theme. Colours where then explored with variations options based on the colours that would be present in a foundry. Final palette was a custom gradient made of red, yellow and orange and a very dark grey, this was chosen instead of a harsh black to complement the vibrant tones and also nod to the metals used in a foundry. Lastly, the colours inside the logo were animated to give it the melted metal effect and further enforce the theme. Animation was then added to give the ident a fun and engaging twist.
