I was contracted by Gravity Global to help one of their clients to create a new set of email templates which reflect their new brand guidelines.
I purposed we create a design system, by using this system it would speed up design and development as well as keeping consistent with brand guidelines. It was also beneficial as it would have responsive components within the library, which can be changed quickly and customised to fit the needs of the client.
The system uses atomic design principles; this is an industry-standard naming convention for designers and developers - making the system easy for both teams to pick up and understand. When designers need to create a new email communication, a Sketch library with fully reusable and responsive components is provided. Using this library gives a clear idea of the elements that can be mixed and matched to create the design.
The components have all been built and tested as HTML blocks by developers. Once client approval has been given to the design, the blocks can be integrated into a fully developed email (with only customisable components to change) and tested. Using the system has dramatically reduced the development time of both designer and developers.
