LETSMEMO – mobile app launch & redesign

  • Marcelina Stempak

LETSMEMO is pioneering the new way to build and own our most treasured moments. It’s a simple, creative platform built on decentralized Web 3.0 technology, where data sovereignty is key. With LETSMEMO, privacy is no longer unknown or scary. It is transparent and empowering.

During my time at LETSMEMO, I worked directly with head designer, Ulrich, our engineering team (WIP) and marketing team to establish and promote the brand, define our MVP and target audience, and launch the app on AppStore. Myself and Ulrich were then responsible for user and usability testing, and redesign of some of the main app features.
I joined LETSMEMO as a second designer in the middle of 2021, just before the company was prepping to launch its iOS app. There were 4 of us who worked in the company at the time, excluding the external engineering team - WIP. The product lunch was intense but fun. We were up against short deadlines, small budgets, and we weren't entirely sure who our users would be. We assumed that, after having spoken to some of them, it would be digitally savvy parents. They'd most likely be interested in Web3, blockchain, NFTs or similar & no longer interested with displaying their lives and loved ones on existing social media platforms. We then really honed in our messaging and imagery to make sure that the app felt catered just for them.
After the launch we didn't go down the 'usual' road. We haven't prepared a launch campaign or gone to the market to promote the app. Instead, we focused on slowly building our community and improving the product, based on users' feedback. We've spent the whole month conducting usability testing, validating our value proposition, user experience, and target audience. Through user interviews and surveys, in became evident that there were substantial pain points in the product. Users liked the idea behind features like collaboration, however they found the experience to be confusing, challenging. They couldn't easily differentiate between their and other users' content. They also wanted the onboarding experience to be more insightful, descriptive. We have listened to all of the suggestions, analysed the findings, and came up with LETSMEMO's next steps proposal.
The challenge was to decide on the product iterations priororities, then to come up with new concepts enabling better & consistent user experience. It required UX creativity when it comes to information structure on the same level as UI skill in order to produce something that stands out.
