My Outside

  • Madeline Contos

My Outside is a visual response to the connection between humans and their personal garden environments. The project addresses wider social anthropocentric views of ecology. The publication is developed through intimate and well-documented interviews with suburban garden owners. The images are not of overtly lush green spaces but instead, show the reality of our suburban environment and the emotional and social value of our outdoor spaces. It proposes the positive implications of engaging schools with ecological thinking and the importance of the community in town planning. I aim to demonstrate how something as simple as a garden can alter the perception of the environment in general.
