My Type of Communication

  • Samuel Shelton
Digital technology and the ever-growing popularity of social media communication, are making language and letters commonplace; even expendable. The variety in style and the accessibilty of typefaces is now so vast that appreciating them individually, when we see them, is becoming harder and harder. Here I have amassed 250 different typefaces and applied them to the Facebook conversations I had in one week; each letter assuming the next typeface in the list. The final typeface is symbolic of a developing relationship with language through our computers. A language that is subsequently defined by the thousands of typefaces available in 2013, when once there were only a few dozen!

?The work shown is the result of my Extended Major Project, a four month brief that came at the end of my final year at University. I entitled it 'My Type of Communication.'
