The Hive - Virtual Gallery (2018)

  • Nathan Taylor

The Hive is an expansive virtual gallery, with multiple rooms and open areas. This was our first demo project, back in 2018 when Curat10n was just getting started. The concept for the space was to use simple geometric shapes to create a flexible layout. Each hexagonal area tesselates with the next, allowing us to design varied exhibition spaces of any size.

In this demo exhibition, each area displays a different artistic medium or subject. It's perfect for showing any kind of photorgraphy or fine art. Water features and sculptures add to the space and cast dramatic shadows.
Most of the gallery is set outdoors, with natural sunlight, blue skies and zero chance of rain. There are also indoor rooms which offer a darker space for showing videos and backlit images.
Artwork takes on a new vibrancy in an outdoor space, and at a larger scale. Images are shown in high-resolution and you can get up close to see every brush stroke.
This first video explores half of the gallery space, including fine art, street art and photogrpahy. It also shows some of the water features and landscaping.

The second video below also includes the video rooms. This includes video screens and projections which fill the whole wall. Towards the end of the video you can also see a 360 video room with a spherical screen.
This was one of Curat10n's earliest project, and things have come a long way since.
