Does anyone have any good book recommendations for professional development? I've just finished Natalie Olah's "Steal As Much as You Can"

  • All kidding aside, Marshall McLuhan's books on media and communications, Understanding Media, The Global Village, The Medium Is The Massage, etc, etc, are more relevent than ever. He was a visionary, decades ahead of his time. Jonathan Miller's short inroduction to his work, Pan Modern Masters series, is also an excellent read, perfect.

Also, though they're somewhat dated (McLuhan definitely isn't), most any book by 'The Father of Advertising', David Ogilvy.
  • Hi Kat,

Lots of my book recos in here:

I'd go to A Big Life in Advertising by Mary Wells Lawrence (if you think it's relevant to you, of course) - she talks about thinking differently to get ahead and I now wish I had a brain like hers!

    Best wishes,

  • Hi Kat,

I would recommend listening to Amy Rowlinson's podcast - Focus on Why. Each guest that Amy chats with is asked for a book recommendation. I bought LinkedInBound by Sam Rathling and Great Answers to Tough Questions at Work by Michael Dodds because the speakers resonated with my thinking. Both books helped me in different ways. First one helped me improve my plans for LinkedIn. The other taught me to be better prepared when negotiating for contracts.

    I hope this help.
    Tony
