The Learning and Life Skills curriculum is most popular and highest revenue generating curriculum offered by Heron publishing and therefore making sure the visual design aesthetic engaged learner and met the business needs and goals was critical. Heron Books is a K-12 independent publisher. These textbooks were in need of a content and visual complete overhaul to be more engaging, interesting, and empowering to young learners.

When designing the visual aesthetic for the new textbooks careful consideration and analysis was conducted to. When designing the visual aesthetic for the new textbooks careful consideration and analysis was done to chose colors, typography, and a layout that would be non-intimidating, visually engaging, and together the set presents a singular brand image consistent with other Heron curriculum offerings.
Careful and thoughtful deliberation occurred around the size of the book and the weight of the paper it was printed on, knowing that the new textbooks needed to be appealing in a tactile and visual manner.
Previous cover designs were not mature in their use of visual design elements and did not create a brand image or color palette consistent with other printed materials or with business values and goals. The business goal of creating an intriguing and engaging cover that would invite the reader to want to engage with the materials in new ways while on their learning journey.
