Memoriae Polarized View (2020)

  • Elisabetta Cuccaro

With Martina Dal Brollo The installation Polarized View has been developed by artist Martina Dal Brollo as her main tool for creating cinetic visual compositions based on plastic waste and other trash, which she collects through Trash-walks. The use of a polarizing filter reveals the imperfections of a material rippled by time, transforming it into an anthropogenic landscape. The Wijkfest should have been an occasion for presenting a site-specific installation based on this machine. The aim was to create a visual and musical event out of the collection of garbage from the specific neighborhood. Together with locals, the artist had collected trash to be used during the performative installation of Polarized View. But the collaboration abruptly became a very different intervention, transforming itself into a work on loss.

The result, Memoriae Polarized View, is the act of remembrance which
responded to the unpredictable destruction of the installation Polarized
View. Remnants of the previous installation are used together with other
means as mnemonic signs for addressing what happened and what is no
more present. The music intervention keeps its original structure, acting
as a strong thread between the lost creation and its actual happening
