#NoToHeathrow

  • Stephanie Gabriella Stark

Heathrow Airport is aiming to expand, and the London Assembly is opposed to the expansion because of its potential impact on the environment, significant increase in noise pollution around London, and the method in which Heathrow Airport consulted with Londoners about the decision.

The digital media campaign mobilised Londoners to engage with the consultation process with a pre-prepared, simplified message explaining five reasons to oppose the expansion. Via paid and organic social media outreach and email, the campaign engaged stakeholders in the environmental advocacy community and those invested in the conversation on noise pollution in London. A highly targeted social media campaign reached residents and businesses that are currently, and would be impacted by new flight paths with the expansion.

The #NoToHeathrow campaign was the London Assembly's most engaging policy issue on social media.
