The Alternative Egg is a studio branding project from c-ll-ct-v-ly. What started out as a joke to make a chocolate egg worthy of Fabergé quickly turned into a challenge to create an alternative chocolate object. I worked alongside the creative director during my internship at c-ll-ct-v-ly to produce this work, collaborating on the idea and design. The piece was inspired by the craft and beauty of Japanese joinery, and took influence from the intricate interlocking forms to create an architectural block, composed of solid dark, milk and white chocolate. The forms were created using Rhino, and developed through testing different manufacturing processes in collaboration with fabrication studios to see how far we could develop and push the idea. The chocolate pieces were constructed using a CNC-router and laser etched to create a delicate mixture of patterns - a fraction of a millimetre thick into the chocolate, to produce this one-off object.
