Hello everyone! Could anyone recommend me books for graphic designers?

I am currently reading The Design Of Everyday Things by Don Norman. I have also heard that The Design Method by Eric Karjaluoto and Logo Design Love by David Airey, are really good. Any more suggestions?

  • So many good books below, but I'd like to add a couple:
    Elements of Typographic Style by Robert Bringhurst;
    Grid Systems in Graphic Design by Josef Mülller-Brockmann;
    Ordering Disorder by Khoi Vinh;
    Laws of Simplicity, by John Maeda
  • There are so many great books on the topic. Are you after something specific?
    Check out Unit Editions. They publish lots of graphic design books. Their most recent release is called Studio Culture and presents over 30 graphic design studios from all over the world. The book includes insights into copyrights, accounting etc. so all in all its a really useful tool book and insights into different practices. Here is the link https://www.uniteditions.com/products/studio-culture-now

    Do explore their other books as they have graphic design monographs too.

    A couple of other books:
    - Oh Sh*t, What Now? Honest Advice for New Graphic Designers by Craig Oldham
    - Two-Dimensional Man by Paul Sahre
    - 'Come Alive! The Spirited Art of Sister Corita Kent' by Julie Ault https://www.fourcornersbooks.co.uk/books/come-alive-the-spirited-art-of-sister-corita/
    Also do check out Counter Print, they publish and distribute wonderful graphic design books, you will find wonderful gems here:

    Happy reading :)
  • Here are some non-design books that I love:
    - Exercise in Style by Raymond Queneau (or illustrated version by Matt Madden)
    - In Praise of Shadows by Junichiro Tanizaki
    - The Philosophy of Andy Warhol (From A to B and Back Again) by Andy Warhol
    - Beyond Culture by Edward T. Hall

    And a website I love to explore from time to time:

  • If you are into the finer details of grid systems, I would recommend "Grid Systems" by Josef Muller Brockman...(its an orange cover)
  • Just My Type by Simon Garfield - excellent introduction to typography and it’s impact

    Now try something weirder by Michael Johnson - essential reading if you’re interested in branding

    Now you see it by Michael Beirut - this one is great as it’s a collection of short essays by the Pentagram legend.

  • Book of branding by Radim Malinic
    Hegarty on creativity by Thames & Hudson
    An essay on typography by Eric Gill
  • Hello Beatriz.
    I would suggest the Signs and Symbols: Their Design and Meaning by Adrian Frutiger.
    It might seem kinda theoritical but it's because it needs to be deconstructed and analyzed properly.
    I hope my suggestion helped. I can e-mail you a copy.
