We’re excited to bring you this year’s wave of exciting creative talent from D&AD’s New Blood Academy supported by WPP. These bright sparks all managed to bag themselves a coveted Pencil at the New Blood Awards back in early July. From hundreds of applicants, they were hand selected by D&AD and their agency partners to take part in the ultimate prize - The New Blood Academy. This is an intensive 4-week programme that that catapults emerging creatives into the industry. Through a non-stop programme of talks, workshops, hacks and live client briefs, attendees are schooled in the skillsets it takes to boss a creative career.

This year’s programme saw the likes of Karen Blackett, James Hilton, Framestore, Alice Tonge and many more inspiring creatives through the doors of D&AD to share their expertise with the next generation of creative talent. The group then spends 2 weeks working with partnering agencies - Landor, Superunion, Ogilvy & Mather, AKQA and Wunderman Thompson - coaching them in what it takes to work for a top creative agency.
The 4 weeks culminated in a Pitch Day in which the graduates shared creative concepts for a live brief set by Dyson. In addition, the teams worked with award-winning agency DesignBridge to craft a brand identity for a non-profit cause close to their hearts. Amongst the charitable movements chosen, we saw campaigns designed to fight malnutrition and obesity, male suicide and ocean conservation.

Of course, one of the key aims of the scheme is to secure junior roles at top agencies within the WPP network who support the programme. Our Pitch Day was hosted at D&AD headquarters and this year pulled in a huge crowd to network and meet with the New Blood rising stars. You can now view all of the class of 2019 Academy profiles here on The Dots where they’ve shared a mix of their pencil-winning work, passion projects as well as their creative concepts from the Academy.
If you’d like to be in with a chance of taking part in the Academy and think you may be eligible, be sure to enter this year’s New Blood Awards which will be launching in mid-October. Watch this space!
