  • I'm definitely enjoying the new profile section. A lot clearer and breaks down the sections well.

Only thing is I'm getting confused about is when i'm on my phone, it shows my profile as complete but then on my computer I'm not verified or 100% complete. Not sure what's happening.

It would be great to separate notifications and messages on the phone app as well.

    Overall I enjoy it. :D
  • The profile now seems more focused on experiences than on projects. I liked the old presentation of projects more I have to admit because it puts into focus what is really important...the stuff we create and not the work places we have been to before. Clearly for mainstream companies that might be more interesting (having a good CV like overview) but The Dots isn't LinkedIn.
  • Hi Pip,

I think it's high quality, sleek and clear.

I would love for project thumbnails to be larger! Although, I appreciate this changes depending on screen size. I say this, because it's starting to feel more corporate, like LinkedIn. The Dots is full of creative folk, so it's lovely if we can make that visual impact.

Thanks for continuing to develop the website though — it's always good to see these changes.

    :)
  • Hi Pip and team,
My overall comment is that the page feels more 'corporate' - less 'free'. I did prefer having all projects listed, however if keeping the three project layout it would be useful to have the option to choose which three are showcased. Many thanks.
  • It is sleeker, though at first I thought that my previous projects had disappeared completely; pressing 'show more' when you have a few projects isn't bad, 10+ and I can see how it could be a bit laborious.
  • Hi Pip,
I really like the sections of Projects and Experience, its a lot clearer I think for audiences to see your whole profile without having to scroll so much which I like!
I think one point I'd say thought is that I would love for audiences to be able to see more of my projects when they come onto my profile, before they could see mutiple which I really liked (could get a full picture of what my work was about) and agree that it was really good to see what Questions and Asks people had been a part of, this really helped with collaboration and communication :-)

  • Hey!

Looks great, but not a big fan of the compact layout to be honest, feels similiar to linkedin which is not that great. the overview of the projects was perfect as it was as far I am concerned, it was more user friendly and more intuitive (plus it was possible to organize projects).

*considerer that people using this plataform will take a lot of effort to upload their projects which are weeks and sometimes months of work for then to appear in a little window on your profile.
  • Just my thoughts...

*I'll start off with the biggest thing, one the features i want back the most is conversations/questions on profiles it was one of the standout feature on The-Dots it helped me to connect with people and help people quickly. #bringitback

*I can't re-order projects anymore, which was a feature i liked and only 18 projects show up, is that a limit now or just a bug?

*Design wise I would lose the . . . where the Preview button is in "the drop down menu" and just have a Preview button or an eye icon whatever works next to the Edit button and make the buttons smaller too.
  • I like the new placement of adding projects and it feels more user friendly etc but as Nancy mentioned I did like the full layout for people to click less and scroll more.
  • Hello Pip,

I like the simple new layout but there are some points that I didn't like.

The compact view is so limiting, I really prefer the full-width layout since it has room for showing more projects. The dots is combining the field between experience and talent but now there's no room for showing the creativity unless the viewer would press on Show More.

In my case, for example, I am not so good at expressing with words but with shapes and color and I want the viewer to feel that.
I hope there will be more layout options to choose from.

I really appreciate everything you do so sorry for being somehow a spoiler here. :)
  • Hi @Pip Jamieson,

I left a comment on a thread from someone else about a glitch the other day so will add some of that here and also some updated thoughts:

Overall I think it looks good though I can understand others thoughts/perceptions of it being more vocational looking rather than portfolio-like.

With the previous project layout, I found some of my thumbnails were cropped and some weren't, and the order of projects meant that things looked a bit haphazard with a mix of portrait and landscape thumbnails, and perhaps thumbnails being cropped inappropriately. While the new format of project thumbnails makes the overall look neater, it would be good to be able to realign the thumbnails within the frame so that you present them in the best way, even if the image is cropped (e.g. on my profile I could move the cover of 'She Took Her Own Picture' up to show the title in full; the Mini Shots cover image could be moved down to avoid cutting off the model's head).

Something that was also a bugbear for me with the old layout was that I didn't appear to be able to reorder projects once uploaded. They either defaulted to newest added or sometimes seemed to randomly reorder. I've been adding older projects recently and will also have some new projects to add. I've tried making minor tweaks to existing projects to make them appear first (and therefore either in newest order or bringing those to the top I want to highlight) but it doesn't always work. An option to drag-and-drop to reorder projects would be amazing, especially if we will be restricted to only three projects appearing at first glance.

On that front though, I agree with others that our projects should be the most important piece on our profiles, and now that they are so compact, it would be best to have them all visible at first glance, or a larger number visible before visitors have to click 'Show more'.

Also, I noticed with the old layout that some users (I'm guessing Beta Club members) had additional sections like Side Hustles. Is there the possibility of having multiple project sections or subsections with a selection of naming options for those of us who may have work across various areas, e.g. I have photography, design, writing and exhibitions, and may have web and social media campaigns to add in future? I think someone below suggested this being tabbed so that people can quickly see your work in a particular speciality. Sort of like organising your projects into collections or categories.

The option to add a project into more than one category would be good too, without having to add it as two separate projects. I know this element is handled in terms of search by skills and tags but, within our profiles, I think it would be really helpful, especially where we have a lot of projects on display.
  • A sleek upgrade hower mirroring others feedback, it's far too condensed and moves away from the core value of The Dots (to move away from traditional job sites a la LinkedIn).

The minimization of the About me and projects section is a major barrier for many. The About Me section is only two lines. It would be useful to have a full overview or at least provide the user the ability to arrange their projects in any order to reflect key projects/what is shown first.

There also appears to be a bug with chronology across the whole interface be it the projects, awards or jobs.

The 'saved' function appears to be completely lost which was a key feature for producers, collaborators and recruiters.
  • I like it, but my two main bits of feedback:

    1) As others have noted, only having 3 projects viewed at a time, with the rest appearing after clicking "Show more" is a barrier. It becomes a chore to view someone's work, when that's the main thing I'm going to their profile to see. The focus should be on their work examples so I can quickly get a taste of what their style is all about in one fell swoop.

    2) Where'd the conversations/questions area go from profiles? I'll now receive an email mentioning a question someone has, and if I click on their photo in the email, it takes me to their page... But from there, I can no longer find the questions they've asked.

Instead, I have to go back to the email to click on the question text or the "post a reply" button. I keep messing this up and then having to double back, which is frustrating.

Most importantly, I really liked visiting someone's page and then serendipitously seeing what was on their minds that I can maybe help with. If I don't see that they have a discussion in progress, it severely inhibits the community interactions and learnings that could be transpiring. A big miss!
  • Quick bug report: Awards section is broken. No matter what year is entered, after refreshing it changes to 2001. If you click edit to change it, clicking on update or cancel doesn't spark any action.
  • Is this a process to make it look like LinkedIn so you can sell to LinkedIn/Facebook etc? I joined The Dots because it was different. The Peole on it are originators. The creative work here is great and the old site showcased work in such a way it was a JOY to scroll through and see what people have been up to. The Dots is about THE WORK, The People and a celebration of crativity.
PLEASE let's not go down the smae ol' .. same ol' route...
  • There are parts that I think are great improvements, but I agree with others - the projects aren't in chronological order and you can't view many of them at a time. Also weirdly for some reason on the preview mode a blank project comes up called 'untitled', but when I go to edit to delete it, it isn't there.
  • Preferred the old format. Don't think this new one adds anything, and visually it's less not more impactful than the original. Whereas the old interface had the feel of a folio page, this new one feels like it's an awkward splicing of The Dots meets Linkedin, and I don't think it's working well. The issue isn't tehcincal, because the navigation works about as well as the old, but design, and conceptual. I think it would be wise to extend your test-bed of users on the next upgrade, and involve the community, i.e. show the community options, ask for their feedback, and then chose the format that wins the most support.
  • Also noticed a friends of mine deleted his profile and so it disapears off the projects i have been credited in. if you are credited in something it would be cool to be able to edit it and also offer more details as to what you offered in this collaborative project, so say for example i offered the idea, would be cool to be able to highlight what exactly each person did, if i worked on art direction/the design element/copy write element etc.
  • Hi Pip! I think is a nice change, still stuff to work through, but I feel everything is more compact and in a sight shot you can get an idea about the profile. There should not be a limit of projects to add . I feel that when I make a new connection and want to check their profile, some times instead of that it takes me to the message section. So I have to open their profile in another page. It would be useful if both things were visible at the same time. This change also prompted me to update and fix some info on my profile. When I am adding the industries, I want to add 'motion graphics' and it doesn't exist, I have to put instead 'animation' and 'design'
